This study analyzed the process of change of his works by time and content of self-portrait of Van Gogh. The change by period changed according to the setting of self-concept, and the change by content changed from realistic self-portrait to subjective and internal self-portrait by color and touch. As a conclusion, first, Gogh produced his self-portrait as the process of recognizing and confirming self-concept. Secondly, Van Gogh produced the method of expressing internality and self-realization through continuous pictorial attempts of self-portrait. This attempt was his self-identification and self-realization to live a meaningful life. Finally, through self-portraits, he sublimated his life and experienced self-healing.
